Innovation Plan
In my innovation proposal, I plan to lead my campus in a new strategy to increase authentic learning by utilizing e-portfolios. By using e-portfolios, students will have the opportunities to showcase their abilities, increase the ownership of their personal learning, and focus on the choice of how they will display their knowledge and skills. My plan is to begin implementing this strategy beginning in third grade classrooms with the goal being to have all third through fifth grade classrooms utilizing and managing e-portfolios by the end of the school year.
In order to inform and make recommendations for a successful innovation project, I had to research literature such as books, peer reviewed articles and journals. I began by researching what benefits there are for students who utilize and manage e-portfolios. I also reviewed what a classroom that utilizes e-portfolios would look like. The research presented in the literature review indicates that there are opportunities for students to provide evidence of their learning through reflections of their work and the monitoring of their growth from one academic to the next.
My plan is to pilot an e-portfolio program on my campus to challenge students to monitor their own progress, and take control of their own learning opportunities. My plan begins with introducing the concept of e-portfolios to the campus leadership team, to providing professional development for staff, with the end result being students being able to upload and manage an e-portfolio from one grade level to another. In order for the e-portfolio plan to be successful, I will need the support of the campus' staff, administration team and parents. The implementation outline that I have created will the program's targets over the next academic year.
I have been able to continue developing my innovation plan with the help of research. As I continue to improve my plan, I will utilize opportunities to research through the use of books, articles, and other media resources. Here are just a few resources that I plan to use.
