ABOUT ME

My name is Patrick Rodriguez.  I have taught elementary for eight years and have been involved in education for 13 years. I am from Houston, Texas and a proud graduate of the University of Houston - Clear Lake.  I first developed a passion for education by working in after school programs.  I have worked with students from kindergarten through ninth grade.  However, I have found that my sweet spot is in a third grade math and science classroom.  Over my eight year career I am proud of the many things that I have accomplished on my home campus such as starting a boys mentoring club, to being a board member on the PTA and more recently being a Clear Touch Panel expert to help teachers learn skills on how to integrate the use of technology into their classrooms.  While teaching I have learned many skills that I have applied to teaching my own students.  I love when I can incorporate technology use in my classroom.  I have taken many opportunities to learn new skills and applications in order to reach each and everyone my students in my classroom.  I hope to complete my Master's in Education in Applied Digital Learning by May of 2023.

As for my personal life, I am married to my best friend, Jenny.  Jenny and me have been happily married (most of the time) for 3 years and have two beautiful puppies, Lucy and Lola.  In my free time you can find me watching documentaries and shows my wife hates.  I love to play golf when it isn't a million degrees outside, and am a big fan of football.  I especially love watching Texas High School Football.  My alma mater is North Shore High School. Go Mustangs!!!

Something I can speak to about my own education is that I was not what most teachers would classify as a good student.  I struggled in certain subjects for many years and sometimes lacked the motivation to keep on pushing.  However, as I grew older I began to value the importance of education.  I am now very proud and happy that I am able to reach out to students who share the same background as me and encourage them to adopt a growth mindset in which they keep pushing themselves.  My favorite thing about teaching is seeing students get excited and show pride in themselves when they finally catch on to what they have been struggling with.  I remember that feeling joy and accomplishment as a kid, and it makes me very happy to see it as an adult in my students' faces.
