Building an E-Portfolio

One of the most challenging things of creating an e-portfolio was learning how to use Wix.  My only experience with creating a website was creating a Teacher Google site for my classroom.  I am actually a big fan of site designing, however the hardest task would be creating a site that was not only easily accessible for my audience but making sure that the information on the site is worth the visit.  One of the other elements of creating an e-portfolio that was challenging was blogging.  I did not consider myself a blogger because I always felt like "Why would anyone want to hear my opinion?".  But one thing I did learn was that blogging is a great way for me to hear feedback from the audience.  I think it is important for people to have opportunities to gain feedback from their peers because it allows opportunities for self reflection and ways to gain different perspectives to your work and opinions.

Something that I enjoyed about constructing my e-portfolio was that the more content and assignments that I began to complete, it made it seem professional.  When I began building my e-portfolio in the summer it felt very empty and boring.  I wasn't sure how exactly the e-portfolio was supposed to help me.  In all honesty, I thought it would be something that I built and never touched again after completing the ADL program.  However, after visiting many e-portfolios of classmates and past students of the ADL program, I began to realize that it could be much more than a place to upload assignments, it could be a place to help others and display things that I feel are important.  Last week, I wrote my first personal blog.  I was able to write about something that dealt with education but also with something that changed my perspective of self-worth and teaching.  If it wasn't for having an opportunity to have a blog on my e-portfolio, I would not have been able to share that story with many people.  With the e-portfolio, I was also able to showcase something that I was proud of, my teacher podcast.  From the beginning of this course, one of the main things that I always remembered and what I wanted to push towards the students who would be creating their own e-portfolios as described in my innovation plan, I wanted this site to be unique to me.  Although, there are required assignments that need to be uploaded, I was given the opportunity to showcase them as I wanted whether through a typed document, video, or graphic design.

Overall, by having the opportunity to create my own e-portfolio, I was able to see how I could make this site unique to how I learn and communicate information.  I am now able to understand the purpose of the e-portfolio and how it could benefit myself and others.  Creating an e-portfolio surely does allow learners to benefit from Choice, Ownership, and Voice their Authentic Learning.
