Compilation Page - 5389

5389 has been quite a journey.  This course helped me further develop my course and modify a few elements of my innovation plan.  One of the big changes in the course development was switching from a 5-week course to a 10-week course.  I felt that information that I was trying to provide for educators seemed too packed in to fit in a smaller time frame.  However, after shifting things around, I now feel that the course that I have developed can better serve the audience it is intended for.

One of the things that helped with the development of my course was referring to the 5 Key Principles of Effective Professional Learning.

  1. Duration - Professional Learning should be ongoing and continuous.

  2. Support - Participants should be able to rely on support and guidance from instructors through sessions and feedforward.

  3. Engagement - Trainings and sessions need to be engaging and active for the audience.  It is required for teachers, and presenters should be held to the same standard.

  4. Modeling - It is imperative for participants to see real life examples and strategies seen in action.

  5. Discipline Specific - Relevancy is the key.  The professional learning taking place must be specific to its audience.

One of my favorite things to discuss in this course was the need for change in how professional learning is developed and presented.  As a teacher, this was something that really hit home with me.  Many of the sessions that I have attended as a teacher have been great, however a large portion have unfortunately seemed like a waste of time or opportunity.  During 5389, we were tasked with developing an alternative professional learning plan.  In this assignment we developed a Call to Action Presentation to persuade campus/district leaders to pursue an alternate approach to how professional developments are presented.  The contents of this assignment can be found by clicking HERE or the image below.

Our second assignment tasked us with the opportunity to create an outline for the proposed plan from assignment one.  With this in mind, I chose to further develop my Innovation Plan and utilize Google Classroom as a way develop skills for teachers as they build, utilize, and implement the use of ePortfolios in their classrooms.  With the use of Fink's 3-Column Table, I was able to develop an outline that would highlight the skills and outcomes that would ensure success of my innovation plan and Big Hairy Audacious Goal.  By including these resources into the assignment, it helped guide me in addressing the concepts of the foundation of my created course.  To view my Professional Learning outline, you may click here to visit the page click on the buttons below.

Who is leading?

I plan to lead the course as the instructor.  During this course I plan to facilitate and lead group discussions and activities.  My goal is also to utilize help from on campus technology specialists and administrators when teachers begin implementing ePortfolios into their own classrooms.

Lastly is the development of the Google Classroom course.  As it may it prove difficult to add/enroll participants to preview the course, I have created a presentation to showcase parts of the course.

Although the journey in 5389 comes to a close, I will continue to develop and modify the content and design of my course as needed.  If being an educator has taught me anything, one of the most important things is that it is important to adapt and evolve when necessary.  Therefore further developing my course as well as revisiting my innovation plan is imperative to providing a purposeful and fulfilling learning experience.
